WINNING PRACTICE OF THE YEAR 2019

The national accrediting body; Exercise and Sports Science Australia awarded us with Exercise Physiology Practice of the Year in 2019 in recognition of  our extensive leadership, advocacy and passion for empowering people with a cancer diagnosis to engage in safe and effective exercise.

The first thing I get asked when proudly delivering the news that we won practice of the year, is ‘What does that mean?’ I think people want to know how impressed they should be.

ESSA, Exercise & Sports Science Australia is our industry’s peak professional accrediting body. ESSA hold these awards each year for all Exercise Physiologist and Sport Scientists in Australia. Melbourne Exercise Physiology Group/Moving Beyond Cancer were nominated by an external exercise physiologist and having met all the criteria, we were asked to put in an application. The application was extensive and allowed us to reflect on all that we had achieved over the past 12 months, including moving to our own facility, working with many cancer organisations and helping many people throughout the cancer continuum help gain control over their bodies.

Please read the extract from the media release below:

Moving Beyond Cancer is a clinic located in Camberwell, Victoria that that has organically grown for many years since 2014, with its parent organisation, Melbourne Exercise Physiology Group running since 1998. Its mission is to empower people with a cancer diagnosis to engage in safe and effective exercise throughout the cancer continuum, and with two full time and one part time Accredited Exercise Physiologists (as well as Milly, the golden retriever therapy dog), they are achieving this mission on a daily basis.

• The extensive leadership, advocacy, highly-sought after expertise, and significant affiliations connected to Moving Beyond Cancer is a true testament of the practice and was hard for the judges to look past. The judges all commented on how founder, Dale Ischia’s vision and passion is evident within the practice, and acts as a real example of the dedication of our members in promoting the profession as a whole and the true benefits of exercise.
