Beginner’s Meditation Course
MPEG is excited to now host meditation classes by Emma Finster.
Come and learn about meditation with Emma!
Next term, I will be running my eight week Beginner’s Meditation Course beginning July 19th, running through to early September.
Mindfulness Meditation has proven health and wellbeing benefits. You probably know it can help you feel more calm and focused, but did you know it can also help you to begin to recognise when you are in a stressed state, your ‘flight or fight’ mode? It can also help you understand how to engage your parasympathetic nervous system to calm yourself down, become more aware of your reactive state, notice your thought processes, and become more in tune with your general state of being. If you have been dealing with trauma, whether that be chronic illness and/or pain or grief, meditation may support you to regain your balance.
A little background: I came to meditation formally around ten years ago. Whilst I had dabbled in various apps, it never stuck or really hit home until I completed a course. It is something I have since found to be hugely rewarding, and whilst I haven’t always maintained the routine I have these days, it has always been something I have drawn on in challenging times for strength and calm. I feel really privileged to now be able to share it with others – particularly in this highly anxious, uncertain time, but also as we transition through different roles in our personal lives (whether it be children growing up, professional lives changing, challenging events etc). Mindfulness can allow us to be much more present in our day to day lives. I am an accredited teacher with the Meditation Association of Australia as of 2021, but I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years and have been sharing mindfulness meditation with students for much of that time. Rest assured, this is an adult course 😁.
I teach a meditation course for beginners – or for those who might have dabbled in the past but are ready to commit to a fresh perspective and practice. The course runs for eight weeks within the school term. The cost is $350, which covers a weekly hour-long guided session, a weekly email with audio recordings to utilise at home and continue on with post-course completion, links to optional further reading/listening for those keen to deepen their understanding and a journal for reflection. You will also hopefully gain the beginning of a life-long habit. Groups are kept relatively small, which allows a gentle introduction in a nurturing, safe space where you are free to experience and engage as much or little as you choose. For those very new to the process, please be reassured you won’t be expected to be sitting in silence and stillness for the hour, that is not how it goes! I will be guiding you through a series of meditations whilst sharing knowledge and understandings with you about insight meditation.
If you feel this might be of interest, or have any questions, please get in touch via email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0402 231 024 and I will be more than happy to provide more information. The course will commence in the middle of July, taking place at Studio 3A, Melbourne Exercise Physiology Group in Camberwell. There will be two options: Wednesday afternoons 3.30-4.30pm or evenings from 6-7pm, so please let me know which session you are interested in.

I look forward to hearing from you,
